Communications Graduate

Media and television has always interested me, especially as a child growing up in an urban community. I had the privilege of attending a performing and Fine Arts High School where I submerged myself in the Theater Arts Program. The arts has had a major influence in my life and has ingrained a deep appreciation of all forms of art and cultures. I would love the opportunity of being able to give back to my school and other performing and fine arts schools because they are places of hope and inspiration for young minds.

I chose to pursue my undergraduate degree in Journalism and Media Studies because I enjoy writing, but after taking some courses in video and the imagery and culture of media I began to have a stronger interest to study the processes of media communications. I had no interest in covering the news or prying into the lives of others and I realized becoming a journalist would not be the best career path for me. I decided that I would pursue a Master’s Degree and instead become a Communications Professional.

In graduate school at Rutgers University, I had the opportunity to take communications courses that broadened the way that I perceived corporations, organizations, social media, and broadcast media. My courses allowed me to study the ways that organizations communicate with their employees and other organizations. I also gained insight on how organizations use initiatives to promote social responsibility and customer loyalty, and the ways that organizations promote and develop their brands.

I have always had a passion for beauty since high school and my time as a beauty intern at ShopPR only solidified my love for cosmetics and haircare products. My most recent internship at Milk Makeup allowed me to narrow my focus in the world of beauty to the field of product development. Through my internships I have gained insight about the way that PR professionals network with others to give their brands exposure, how they market their unique brands to customers and how product development teams create and develop some of the products that we all know and love.

I am passionate about learning and travelling and hope that maybe one day I can help change some of the conventional perceptions of beauty. My ultimate goal is to create my own beauty line of cosmetics and skin or hair care. I would love to be an entrepreneur and start a business that can stay within my family for generations to come.
